In Cahul, a pensioner who was found guilty of raping an underage girl was sentenced to 22 years in prison. The decision was made on April 19 by a local court and implies serving the sentence in a closed-type colony.
According to the investigation, the incident took place in October 2021 in the convicted person’s house located in the south of the country. Using psychological pressure, the man forced the underage girl to have sexual intercourse with him. After a few months, he repeated his criminal actions in the presence of the victim’s younger sister. Additionally, the accused drilled a hole in the wall of the room where the girls lived and made four audio recordings to collect information about their personal lives without their consent.
During the trial, the convicted person refused to admit his guilt and tried to blame the girl’s stepfather, but this statement was not confirmed during the investigation.
The verdict is not final and can be appealed in the Cahul Court of Appeals within 15 days. Until the verdict becomes legal, the convicted person will remain in custody.
