This is the highest vaccination rate against this disease in the country. However, the vaccination rate against other diseases varies between 84% and 88%. This information was presented by the Minister of Health, Alla Nemerenco, at a national conference attended by doctors, public health specialists, students, and representatives of international organizations.
The Minister stated that vaccines save millions of people worldwide. Thanks to the National Immunization Program in Moldova, approximately 42 thousand cases of disease have been prevented, and around 400 deaths have been avoided.
Emil Cheban, the Rector of Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, highlighted the university’s active involvement in immunization research. The university conducts clinical studies and provides intensive immunoprophylaxis courses for students and resident physicians.
Alexei Cheban, the coordinator of the World Health Organization’s programs in Moldova, noted that approximately 5 thousand children each year do not receive vaccinations according to the immunization schedule. In this regard, WHO has proposed a joint campaign with its partners to identify unvaccinated individuals and achieve vaccination rates recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.
The conference discussed various topics, including WHO’s immunization plans until 2030, the global situation of vaccine-preventable diseases, achievements and challenges of the national immunization program, vaccination of people with chronic diseases, the epidemiological situation regarding cervical cancer and prevention through vaccination, and vaccination in crisis situations.
