Maia Sandu seeks to expand the access of Moldovan products to the European Union market. Meeting with European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni, the Moldovan president discussed economic integration in the EU. Sandu noted that over the past ten years, the single European market has become a key export destination for Moldova. In 2022, 60% of Moldovan exports were sent to the EU, and Moldovan producers earned more than $2.5 billion in this market. The president highlighted the successful sale of seven categories of products on the EU market without payment of customs duties and expressed the desire to expand the access of Moldovan agricultural and livestock products to this market. In addition, Sandu noted work on the creation of transport and energy infrastructure to fully integrate the Moldovan economy into the European one. She also informed Commissioner Gentiloni of the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations necessary to open accession negotiations with the EU, and expressed the country’s determination to meet EU standards and conditions for becoming an EU member.
