In Gagauzia there is an increasing number of fraud cases related to the theft of money from bank cards. In the first six months of 2023, 73 cases of such crime were registered in the autonomy, as reported in the police department. Most of the cases were recorded in the Comrat district, Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti districts. 36 of them have already been subject to criminal prosecution.
The most common methods of fraud are calls on behalf of the bank’s security service, information about favorable promotions through social networks, promises of help in obtaining favorable loans and offers of additional earnings on the Internet.
The police urge citizens to be careful and not to give their personal data, bank card information, passwords and codes to fraudsters. Card details should not be stored on devices, nor should they be allowed to be photographed or copied. It is also important to periodically check account statements and be vigilant when receiving questionable calls or messages.
In case of suspected fraud, citizens are advised to immediately contact the bank’s support service or call the police by calling the unified emergency service 112. Reacting in time will help prevent losses and protect personal funds.
