Due to large water releases from hydroelectric power plants in Ukraine, serious drought is possible in Transnistria and Moldova, warned the director of the Dubasari hydroelectric power plant, Boris German. He noted that the level of the reservoir has dropped almost to a minimum, and it is not prudent enough to rely only on rain in the Carpathians. In summer, especially during the heat wave, water release will be limited and evaporation will be high, which can lead to serious problems with water supply. This could affect Chisinau and Tiraspol, which depend on water from the Dniester River. Ecologist Ilya Trombitsky also emphasized that the situation on the Dniester River is alarming, as even after high water discharges, the level remains extremely low for this time of year. He called for urgent measures at the transboundary level to address future water shortages.
