Every year, more than 300 women in Moldova face a diagnosis of cervical cancer, and of these, 200 do not survive. However, this is now changing thanks to the opening of 12 colposcopy units in different regions of the country. This gives women better access to early diagnosis and prevention of cervical cancer.
The National Colposcopy Network will make life easier for patients by providing the opportunity to have a medical examination closer to home, minimising the need for long journeys to the capital. An example of this was the study conducted for Alina from Soroca municipality, who appreciates the convenience of receiving a colposcopy examination without having to travel to Chisinau.
The Soroca colposcopy clinic also emphasises modern equipment and support for online consultations with gynaecologists from Chisinau. This not only improves the quality of medical care, but also saves time and finances for the patients.
The initiative was supported by the UN Population Fund, which invested more than 600 thousand dollars in opening colposcopy rooms. This step is intended to reduce the number of deaths from cervical cancer and give women the opportunity to undergo regular check-ups to prevent the disease.
