The Moldovan President, Maia Sandu, declared the “5+2” negotiation format incompetent and expressed Chisinau’s strategic position in the gradual inclusion of the Transnistrian region in the legislative field of the country. She emphasised the need for the left bank of the Dniester to be in line with the national legislation in order to achieve the advantages of getting closer to the European Union.
Sandu noted that the conflict between Ukraine and Russia makes the functioning of the 5+2 format impossible, while Moldova focuses on the process of the country’s reunification and takes steps towards this goal. She emphasised the importance of the European integration for the country’s well-being both before and after the EU accession.
Sandu also said that Transnistria should fulfil the European Union’s requirements in order to maintain and increase its benefits from the Association Agreement. A recent congress of deputies of all levels in Transnistria expressed an appeal to Russia to protect the region from pressure from Chisinau.
