The warning was issued after Energocom purchased one megawatt-hour of electricity on the exchange at a high price of 296 euros on January 15. Prime Minister Dorin Rechan emphasized that the key to success is energy savings. At this price, it is expected to purchase about 26% of current consumption, which will raise the average price to 165 euros, higher than the tariff cost. However, if everyone saves, the likelihood of price increases will decrease.
Since January 1, MGRES no longer supplies electricity to Moldova, and Energocom purchases more than half of the energy needs from Romania and European markets. The rest is provided by local thermal power plants and renewable energy producers.
Earlier, on January 9, Rechan stated that electricity tariffs on the right bank of the Dniester would not change in the coming months. He mentioned that the authorities have considered all possible risks and taken measures to prevent tariff increases. The Prime Minister also stressed that it is important to save during peak hours to avoid reasons for price hikes.
Additionally, in September 2024, despite promises, gas and electricity tariffs increased.
