Government representatives traveled to Russia to discuss the gas issue, but the negotiations were unsuccessful. Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian stated that “this book of accusations no longer works,” explaining that one of the demands of “Gazprom” was the recognition of the debt, which Chișinău is unwilling to do.
Serebrian explained that the government took this step by sending the Minister of Energy to negotiate with “Gazprom.” However, the main demand from the Russian company was the recognition of the debt, which Moldova does not acknowledge. The Deputy Prime Minister added that this debt represents pressure on the citizens of Moldova, and the government does not want the people of the country to pay for an invented debt, which amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars.
