Former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that in the near future the natural gas tariff may reach 18.48-20.04 lei per cubic meter. His comment came against the background of a recent purchase by Moldovagaz: on December 2, the company bought 46.2 million cubic meters of gas at a price of about 605 euros per thousand cubic meters. The total sum of the deal amounted to almost 28 million euros, which is equivalent to more than 540 million lei.
Filat expressed concern about the significant increase in the costs for the population and linked it to the mistakes made last summer. He said that the procrastination in purchases led to the current price burden on citizens, especially with the start of the winter season.
“Moldova is facing an exorbitant financial burden due to the incompetence of the current government. We need a clear strategy to avoid similar crises in the future. Until then, the population will have to bear the burden of the leadership’s wrong decisions,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the representative of the executive branch, Daniel Voda, said that the government is ready to provide compensations for the needy in order to mitigate the effect of the new tariff, which is 16.74 lei per cubic meter from December 1, increasing by 27.5%.
