Following Maia Sandu’s request to increase the salaries of mayors, vice-mayors and secretaries of local councils, Dorin Recean said that he was working to find a solution for this task. He said that the support of the parliamentary speaker during the budgetary procedure will be needed to make budgetary changes by the end of the year.
In his statement, the prime minister also emphasised that besides resources for rural localities, “honest and decent mayors” are important. Recean highlighted the ongoing works on infrastructure construction, renovation of educational institutions and development programmes. He emphasised the need to stop geopolitical talk and explain the importance of European integration. Recean is confident that the government will achieve the goal of increasing salaries, but also emphasised the importance of increasing revenues.
The Mayors’ Forum gathered representatives from more than 700 localities across the country.
