
The Moldovan parliament hosted the first meeting of the chairpersons of the European Union Affairs Commissions and the Foreign Affairs Commissions of the European Union. The event, known as United4Moldova, took place on the platform of the Commission for Foreign Policy and European Integration.
Attending the event, President Maia Sandu said that Moldova chose European integration in search of peace and stability. She also stressed that Moldova has opted for the European path, and now the EU member states will have to decide on Moldova’s possible membership in the European family.
The presence of parliamentarians from the EU member states expressed solidarity with Moldova and its aspirations for European integration. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu emphasised the importance of Moldova’s development as a free and democratic country, and mentioned the progress achieved in the justice sector, energy security and reduction of bureaucracy.
EU Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazeix reiterated the EU’s support for Moldova’s European future and stressed the importance of implementing reforms and complying with the European Commission’s requirements in order to achieve European integration.
Mazeix also referred to the financial support provided to Moldova by the EU and emphasised the importance of continuing the efforts to achieve the goal of a prosperous and democratic European Moldova.
At the event, MPs from different EU member states, MEPs and diplomats discussed Moldova’s European perspective, the progress in the EU accession process and the challenges to be overcome.
