He emphasized that the group led by Ilan Șor, who was convicted of “bank fraud,” has created an extensive voter bribery scheme in Moldova using money from Russia. These statements were made by the head of the General Inspectorate of Police, Viorel Cernăuțanu, during the program “În context.” He warned that the risks of corruption will continue in the second round of elections and urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities to protect the democratic process.
“We are dealing not with one or two criminals, but with a large-scale criminal organization that is deceiving voters in Moldova. This organization is an instrument for broader falsifications organized from abroad. What is happening in Moldova is an unprecedented situation, and no European country has faced such a complex fraud scheme,” Cernăuțanu said.
He added that preparations for this started in April. “Everything took place online, through Telegram bots, and corruption has shifted to a new mechanism where physical contact for the transfer of money has disappeared,” he noted. Cernăuțanu emphasized that many citizens are aware of the scheme and are already providing information.
