Almost 300 residents in Ceadir Lunga will enjoy more comfortable living conditions and lower heating costs thanks to energy efficiency investments by the National Centre for Sustainable Energy (CNED). The results of the energy audit and the proposed improvement measures for the three high-rise buildings were presented at a public meeting with the participation of building managers and local authorities.
Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said that Moldova spends twice as much energy per square metre for heating buildings as the EU average. He gave assurances that the implementation of the proposed energy efficiency measures will make it possible to reduce energy costs and, consequently, utility bills.
The planned financing from the Fund for Energy Efficiency in the Residential Sector (FEERM), which will be managed by CNED, is expected to cover up to 70 per cent of the costs of energy efficiency works, with the remaining 30 per cent to be contributed by the residents.
It is important that the houses have active residents’ associations that can effectively manage the finances and represent the interests of the residents.
The energy audits were conducted with the support of the European Union under the programme “Addressing the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova” implemented by UNDP Moldova.
The energy efficiency investments will pay for themselves within 14 years through energy savings; heat losses in dwellings of more than 7 thousand square metres will be reduced by up to 58%, which will also result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by about 98 tonnes of CO2 per year.
