People who refuse to provide their personal data for statistical purposes will face a fine of up to 2100 lei under the law on offenses. This fine will be imposed by a representative of the National Bureau of Statistics on the basis of a report prepared by a reviewer, realitatea.md informs.
The director of the National Statistics Service, Oleg Cara, announced that each person will receive up to five notices to provide information as part of the 2024 Population and Housing Census.
“The first step will be a leaflet sent out with information about the census. After the second reminder, a notice will be left. This will be followed by another notice. If the person fails to respond to contact attempts, a notice will be left for a possible fine under the misdemeanor legislation. A protocol on imposing a fine will be drawn up only after all these steps have been completed,” explained Oleg Kara.
The 2024 population and housing census started in Moldova on Monday, April 8, and will continue until July 7. During three months, the reviewers will collect information on the population size, its demographic characteristics, as well as on the living conditions. Preliminary results of the census will be announced no earlier than January 2025.
