Several vocational training institutions in Moldova will undergo changes. Six vocational schools and two colleges will be integrated into other vocational education institutions. For example, the Center of Excellence in Light Industry in Chisinau will take over the Chisinau College of Technology. These changes are envisaged in a draft submitted by the Ministry of Education and Science for public discussion.
According to this draft, institutions such as the Center of Excellence in Services and Food Industry in Balti and the Ion Creanga Pedagogical College in Balti will also be revised. For example, the Pedagogical College in Balti will take over the Gheorghe Asaka College in Lipcani.
Similar changes are expected in other parts of the country. For example, the educational institution in Cupcinj, Edinet district, will replace the college in Corbu, Dondusan district. The Orhei vocational school will include vocational schools in Rezinas and Telenesti.
The draft notes that employees working in the institutions that will be absorbed will be transferred to other institutions according to the labor law. Where this is not possible, redundancy measures will be taken in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Education emphasizes that in order for vocational education institutions to function effectively, the number of students must be at least a certain threshold: at least 350 students in colleges and at least 700 in colleges. Currently, however, only 26 out of 77 institutions, including three colleges under the Ministry’s jurisdiction, meet this criterion.
