The European Commission and the European External Action Service have presented a support package to Moldova to help the country overcome the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine and bring it closer to the European Union. The announcement was published by the European Commission’s press service on Wednesday, according to eurointegration.com.ua.
The support package for Moldova includes five priorities that aim to overcome the consequences of Russia’s war in Ukraine and bring Moldova closer to the EU.
1. Promoting economic development: Under this priority, a Trade Priority Action Plan will be implemented, including special flagship projects and support measures for SMEs, trade, energy efficiency and human capital development. Funding will also be provided for projects under the “Pathways of Solidarity” initiative to solve problems at the border.
2. Supporting reforms: This priority includes administrative capacity building, advisory services, training programmes and support for the implementation of reforms in Moldova.
3. ensuring energy security: Measures will focus on increasing domestic electricity production, participating in EU gas purchases, promoting renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency.
4. Strengthening security: Targeted actions in this direction will be carried out through dialogues, cooperation with EU missions and agencies, and strengthening the Moldovan defense sector with the help of the European Peace Foundation.
5. Countering information manipulation: To this end, technical support will be provided to the Moldovan government and the capacity of independent media, civil society and the Moldovan media will be developed.
To combat misinformation and actively inform about the benefits of EU integration.
Also, following the European Commission’s June 20 proposal to revise the Multiannual Financial Framework, some 600 million euros from the Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument can be reallocated to programs for the period 2024-2027 to increase support to other neighboring countries, including Moldova.
