The first imported cherries from another country, brought from Greece, have appeared in the markets of Chișinău, but many buyers are not rushing to purchase them due to the high price. They prefer to wait for the local harvest. According to information from tvrmoldova.md, due to the weather conditions, the cherries will ripen slightly later than usual.
Currently, imported cherries are being sold at a price of 300 lei per kilogram, and the sellers have no intention of lowering the price. They point out that last year, early cherries were sold for 350-400 lei per kilogram.
Orchardists explain the delay in cherry ripening this spring due to the cold and rainy weather, which has also affected other local seasonal fruits.
Traditionally, the cherry season in Moldova begins in June. There are approximately 5,200 hectares of cherry orchards in the country.
