According to the annual financial report, in 2022, Moldtelecom, the main state-owned telecommunications company, earned 1,687 million lei, which is 4 million lei less than the previous year. The majority of the company’s revenue came from providing internet and IPTV services, which accounted for over 60.6% or 1.023 billion lei. This is higher than in 2021 when the share of these services was 57.9%.
Mobile communication services took second place with a revenue of 290 million lei, which is 3% higher than in 2021, and accounted for 17.2% of the total revenue.
Revenue from fixed-line telephony services amounted to almost 250 million lei, a decrease of 19% compared to 2021, continuing the downward trend of previous years. The remaining portion of the revenue was generated from other activities.
However, the net profit of the company decreased by approximately half and amounted to only 39.9 million lei.
The management of Moldtelecom associates this result with the energy and geopolitical crisis that affected the Republic of Moldova and the rest of the world.
The Moldtelecom management claims that “the economic, geopolitical, and energy crises are the main external factors that have significantly influenced the financial performance of the company in 2022 and led to a reduction in net profit by 51.6 million lei compared to the previous year.”
The administration also states that urgent measures have been taken to reduce the negative consequences of the crisis, aimed at expense reduction and mitigating the impact on net profit.
The company has also reported liabilities amounting to over one billion lei, which is nearly 60 million lei less than in 2021.
