Renato Usatii commented on the government’s proposal that disinformation affecting Moldova’s independence, sovereignty and security would be considered “an additional form of state treason”. He stated that the authorities are trying to oblige everyone to love PAS and Maia Sandu. Usatii believes that the new charge of “treason against the homeland” can be used against any critic of the government.
“The Venice Commission and its opinion no longer exist for them. They call us ‘traitors to the homeland’ simply for criticizing the government. In the next parliament, we will need at least 6 months or even a year to fix all the problems caused by PAS and their legislative changes,” Usatii said in an interview for ziua.md.
Usatii also accused the government of refusing to have an open discussion with the opposition. He said that last week he was banned from broadcasting a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimova live on air.
“European integration in secret! On Friday, the government once again pretended to care about citizens and consult with political parties. I agreed to participate in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Gerasimova and offered to sign the Pact for Moldova in order to form a government of specialists from all parties. But we were informed that the event would be without press. I was forbidden to broadcast live, so I refused to participate.
The government avoids open discussions with the opposition. Spinu refused to discuss the gas price with me, and Sandu refused to discuss the creation of a government based on professional competencies. But citizens are waiting for these discussions,” Usatii added.
