The European Union will provide Moldova with 9.5 million euros to help it improve security and advance its integration with the EU. The money will be used for a project called “Sustainable Moldova EU4 – Secure State, Strong Communities”, which is funded by the European Commission and implemented by the PL Solidarity Fund in Moldova.
The project, which was presented at today’s event, includes several key initiatives. Thus, 35 fire stations will get new communication systems, 10 fire stations are to be built, 12 municipal enterprises will be equipped with solar panels. Infrastructure renewal projects will be carried out in five cities, and a Smart Village project will be launched in five villages. Photovoltaic parks will also be built.
Interior Minister Adrian Efros emphasized that the project will help strengthen the country’s security at all levels, from national institutions to local communities and vulnerable groups.
Peter Wagner from the European Commission said that Moldova’s cooperation with the EU brings real results. He noted that Moldova faces a number of problems, such as border conflicts and energy crisis, and hopes that the new project will help deal with these challenges.
The chairman of the Solidarity Fund’s supervisory board, Henrik Litvin, expressed satisfaction with the assistance provided and emphasized that Moldova remains an important partner of the EU. He noted that the Solidarity Fund has been working in Moldova for more than 10 years and will continue to support the country, including a new project on energy efficiency for small and medium-sized enterprises, which will start next week.
