The European Union will allocate four million euros to build mutual trust between the inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester River. This step continues to support improved co-operation and community rapprochement, involving local partners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
This new, sixth phase of the Confidence Building Measures programme, implemented with the participation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to reduce the distance between settlements on both sides of the Dniester. The project has a budget of four million euros, will be active until the end of 2025, and focuses on the following key areas: stimulating economic growth and creating new jobs, promoting cooperation between civil society organisations, developing local communities and strengthening small social infrastructure, as well as promoting cultural heritage.
The European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Mr Janis Mazeix, emphasised the importance of supporting social solidarity and cooperation between the communities that live on both banks of the Dniester River. Through this new phase of the Confidence Building Measures programme, the European Union and its implementing partners encourage joint efforts in economic development and job creation, and promote community development and cultural values as a key element for a sustainable, just and inclusive society.
The Confidence Building Measures programme contributes to improving the lives of the population on both banks of the Nistru River by promoting co-operation in business development and increasing the competitiveness of small and micro-enterprises. The programme’s support will help create at least 50 new jobs in 20 small enterprises that will receive support to develop their business.
The partnership between the EU and UNDP, which continues to build confidence between the banks of the Nistru River, is appreciated for its impact and assistance in improving the quality of life of the population. This new phase also promotes co-operation in various key areas, including health, tourism and environmental protection.
Since 2009, the Trust Measures programme has successfully supported 720 companies on both banks of the Dniester and created over 1,900 jobs. More than 125 projects have also been implemented to develop social infrastructure, including the renovation of schools, kindergartens and cultural centres, as well as the preservation and restoration of historical monuments.
