The ‘Farmers’ Power’ Association demands clarification from the government regarding the distribution of diesel fuel provided by Romania. In November 2022, President Maia Sandu asked Romania to provide humanitarian aid in the form of diesel for Moldovan farmers. However, according to the association, it was not until more than three months later that an official appeal was sent to the Romanian government requesting the fuel.
Following the farmers’ protests, in June 2023, the Agriculture Ministry approved the idea of distributing Romanian diesel to farmers affected by the drought in 2022. A procedure was established to develop rules for fuel distribution, and more than 1,500 small and micro farmers submitted applications to the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture by 30 September 2023. On 13 November 2023, AIPA compiled a list of farmers eligible for benefits and the amount of diesel returned per affected hectare, taking into account all factors.
“It has been almost a month and the distribution of diesel has not started. Where is the diesel that was said to have already been distributed?” the farmers ask the Prime Minister.
