The management of the municipal company Apă-Canal-Bălţi plans to request the National Energy Regulatory Agency to increase tariffs. The current level of payment does not cover the company’s costs, especially in light of the huge losses due to old pipes and the increasing costs of system maintenance, electricity and materials. The company’s managers say that the tariff increase is necessary to compensate for the outdated systems and reduce losses, which currently stand at 60 percent. The technical director of ÎM Regia Apă-Canal-Bălţi notes that even with a 30 percent reduction in losses, the tariff will not cover current demands and costs, and proposes setting a price of 30 lei per cubic meter of water so that the company can cover all its expenses. Currently, consumers in Balti municipality connected to the centralized water supply system pay 11.23 lei per cubic meter, while economic agents are charged 23.64 lei per cubic meter.
