Recently, changes have been made to the legislation on housing, and these changes have already entered into force. Now, in addition to low-income households, social housing will also be provided to families in which at least one member works in a budgetary institution or in public services. However, instead of the concept of “minimum subsistence” as one of the eligibility criteria, the “national minimum wage” will be used.
The document also contains the recommendations of the Court of Accounts, which audited the implementation of the Socially Disadvantaged Housing Project. The recommendations relate mainly to the conditions for the termination of the housing contract, including the discovery of the provision of false data or failure to notify local authorities of changes in the conditions that were the basis for the provision of social housing.
The Government is required to bring its regulations into line with these changes to housing legislation within six months. These steps are aimed at increasing access to social housing and improving living conditions for many Moldovans.
