Medical experts warn against the unsafe bathing in the lakes of the capital due to unsuitable water quality. The lake water does not meet the chemical requirements, although the bacteriological indicators are within the norm. According to Dr. Tudor Puiu, a specialist at the Chisinau Public Health Center, the capital’s lakes have not been cleaned of dirt, waste and vegetation for more than 25 years. After heavy rains, water quality significantly deteriorates due to the inflow of waste and animal remains. The situation is particularly bad at the beaches of Vatra, Valea Morilor and Riscani, where helminth eggs have been found in the sand. This can pose a risk of getting toxocariasis. In this regard, it is recommended to use pools with water from reliable sources. Experts also advise resting on beaches only on blankets and showering with water from reliable sources.
