Valeriu Ostalep believes that Moldova has the potential for a high standard of living for its citizens. This requires a policy that involves everyone, not excludes them, as it is now.
He disagrees with the opinion that a small independent Moldova cannot exist independently and should join one of the big parties. Ostalep considers this opinion erroneous and imposed by external forces seeking their influence.
“This is not true. If Moldova did not have chances and ability to live independently, we would not exist long ago. We have been balancing between different sides for 300 years,” Valeriu Ostalep said.
He noted that Moldova is at the center of the intersection of different cultures: Western, Eastern, Russian and others, which has an impact on the situation in the country. Although this creates difficulties, it also brings advantages.
“There are pros and cons to it. But if it wasn’t, we would have been stretched to one side or the other long ago,” said the former deputy foreign minister and security expert.
Ostalep emphasized that Moldova’s prosperity requires a policy of inclusion of all citizens, regardless of their nationality. “We need the opinions of Gagauz, Russians, Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Jews. They should be involved not only in discussions, but also in the government. It is a complicated process, but necessary,” he added.
