Moldovan wrestler Maxim Sârmanov brought the first medal for the Republic of Moldova at the European Junior Wrestling Championship “under 17 years old,” held in the capital of Albania, Tirana. Sârmanov won the silver medal in the 55 kg weight category. In the battle for the championship title, Maxim Sârmanov suffered a dramatic defeat against Georgian wrestler Erekle Tavberidze. Initially, the Moldovan athlete led with a score of 2-0, but his opponent quickly turned the tide of the match and reversed the result.
Another representative of Moldova, Victor Postica, finished in fifth place in the 48 kg weight category. He was defeated by Elnar Ziyadov from Azerbaijan in the fight for the bronze medal. Moldova is represented by 16 athletes at the European Junior Wrestling Championship in Tirana. The competition will continue until June 18th.
