NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Gioane spoke at the jubilee conference “NATO and Moldova – 30 years of Partnership for Peace”, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Moldova and the alliance. He noted that Moldova has faced serious pressure from Russia, but has clearly expressed its position, condemning Putin’s war and increasing defense spending. NATO supports Moldova’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from the country’s territory. Joane stressed that Moldova does not seek NATO membership, but strengthens its partnership with the alliance by participating in peacekeeping missions and joint efforts to develop defense and combat security challenges. NATO supports Moldova’s European integration and believes that their partnership will help the country on its path to EU membership.
