The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its categorical protest in connection with the holding of unauthorized electoral events by the Russian Federation on the territory of the Republic of Moldova in the administrative units on the left bank of the Dniester River. According to an official statement by the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, such actions constitute a violation of international law and are of serious concern.
“We call on the international community to support the principles of legal order and condemn the actions committed by the Russian Federation,” the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Six polling stations were opened on Transnistrian territory on March 17 for the Russian presidential election. Citizens of the Russian Federation residing in the region had the opportunity to vote at three polling stations in Tiraspol, as well as one polling station each in Bender, Ribnitsa and Grigoriopol from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Earlier, Moldovan authorities expressed opposition to the opening of polling stations on the territory of Transnistria to vote in the Russian presidential election.
Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov, who was summoned for questioning by the Moldovan Foreign Ministry on March 12, was handed a note of protest in connection with the opening of polling stations on Transdniestrian territory.
