In the second reading, MPs adopted three draft laws. They considered a proposal to terminate three agreements with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The first of these agreements was signed in Minsk on 14 February 1992. It concerned co-operation in providing the armed forces with material resources and scientific research. The Ministry of Defence believes that this agreement has lost its relevance, as Moldova does not participate in the military-political sphere of the CIS.
The second document that was denounced is the Agreement on Military Observer Groups and Collective Peacekeeping Forces, signed in Kiev on 20 March 1992. The Ministry of Defence is of the opinion that participation in this agreement is inappropriate, as Moldova is not actively interacting in the CIS politico-military sphere.
The third document that was rejected is the Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Terrorism and Extremism. The motivation for the denunciation is that Moldova does not co-operate in this field with other CIS member states and that the security bodies did not use the provisions of this agreement.
Thus, the decision is based on the fact that there is no need for Moldova to maintain its membership in these agreements with CIS participation.
