One of the leaders of the “Civic Congress,” Mark Tkachuk, stated that if the opposition waits until the start of the election campaign to divide positions and discuss the lists, it will inevitably lose. In this case, the ruling party will continue to repress and further restrict political freedoms.
Tkachuk emphasized that, in order to avoid this scenario and ensure fair elections, the opposition, both the left and the right, must unite now and start demanding changes.
He noted that this involves revising the Electoral Code, changing the principles for forming the Central Election Commission, ensuring real access to public television, and removing law enforcement agencies from political functions.
According to Tkachuk, if the opposition unites around a common democratic agenda, victory will not only be possible but also convincing — the opposition will be able to secure not 51%, but 81% of the voters’ support.
