Moldova’s participation in the NATO summit in Vilnius confirms the North Atlantic Alliance’s attention to the country and its receiving the necessary support to counter threats from the Russian Federation. Laurenziu Plesca, an expert from Bucharest, expressed his opinion in this regard, pointing to the possibility of Moldova receiving air defense systems, for which requests were previously expressed.
Plesca also said that Moldova can count on more political and military support through the European Instrument for Peace, within which Moldova is a part. He also emphasized the need to improve the military training of soldiers, given that Moldova’s army has been in a state of neglect for many years. The expert also expressed the expectation of support in countering Russia’s hybrid aggression, which is directed against Moldova.
At the NATO summit in Vilnius, Moldova will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu. He will deliver a speech at a meeting of NATO and partner countries’ foreign ministers, where he will present Moldova’s position on regional security and the measures taken to counter security challenges. Meetings are also planned with representatives of NATO member states and partner countries to discuss cooperation opportunities.
The Foreign Ministry also reported that Nicu Popescu held meetings and talks with officials and counterparts on the sidelines of the summit.
