Since the beginning of this year, 1,059 families in Moldova have received a lump-sum allowance of 20,000 lei (
about 1,000 euros) at the birth of a child. This allowance is paid by the National Social Insurance Fund (CNSS) and does not require parents to provide additional documents. According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the allowance is granted for each newborn, including twins, provided that the child is registered with the competent subdivision of the State Services Agency.
Since the beginning of the year, the allowance increased from 10,932 to 20,000 lei. The decision was taken within the government’s programme aimed at supporting families and combating child poverty. The NCSS also financed other types of allowances and pensions, totalling 174.26 million lei.
To receive the allowances, citizens can apply to their banking institution or to any post office in the country.
