The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted a draft law including new rules for social leave, combating child labor and improving working hours for mothers with small children. The bill was drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection to improve working conditions and the proportionality of national legislation with that of the European Union.
One of the changes concerns child labor. Adolescents from 15 years of age can now work only with the written consent of their parents or legal representatives, and there are fines for the use of child labor in the informal sector.
For pregnant, recently given birth and breastfeeding women, there are restrictions on night and weekend working hours, which they can only work if they wish, with a medical report and agreement with the employer.
A new type of unpaid social leave is also introduced for employees who have a seriously ill family member in need of care. This leave may last up to five working days per year.
