The Prosecutor’s Office of Gagauzia has sent to court the criminal case against the doctor from Comrat who helped 25 elderly people vote in the elections and referendum on October 20, 2024. The doctor faces a fine or imprisonment of up to 3 years.
According to the investigation, the doctor, while being near the patients, took their stamps and applied them on the ballots in their place, voting for a specific candidate and referendum option. These actions were recorded on video and published by the Promo-LEX Association. The prosecutors requested the doctor’s suspension from duty, but the Comrat court rejected this request.
The doctor was accused of voting on behalf of other people, which violates the law. According to the Penal Code, this is punishable by a fine, community service, or imprisonment of up to 3 years.
