The repair of the bridge on Mihai Viteazul Street in Chișinău, which was supposed to be completed in 2024, has been delayed and is now expected to be finished in the summer of 2025. As a result, there are significant traffic jams, and drivers are trying to avoid this area. It is particularly difficult for those who pass frequently over this bridge.
Residents of the city complain that the work is progressing slowly, even though this bridge is one of the main transport arteries of the capital. They point out that only a few people are working on the construction, and the bridge could have been repaired in six months, not in several years.
Additionally, pedestrians using public transport say that the traffic jams make it difficult for them to get to work or school. Some complain that crossing the bridge can take up to half an hour.
According to the engineer working on the construction, the repair of the bridge takes a long time due to the complexity of the work, such as concreting and dismantling the supports. Some work cannot be done in winter, which further slows down the process. The project has also been modified, and some minor issues with materials arose, but these have been resolved.
The repair of the bridge began in 2022. The initial cost of the work was estimated at 78 million lei, but later the amount increased to 108 million lei.
