PSRM MP and candidate for the capital’s head Adrian Albu expressed his position on President Maia Sandu’s statements about the lack of funds to index pensions in line with the inflation rate. Albu believes that such statements cause disappointment among pensioners and condemns the PAS government’s policy, which, in his opinion, does not correspond to the dignity of the elderly people.
Albu says Maia Sandu is repeatedly disappointing the country’s pensioners, including many Chisinau residents. He claims that Sandu is informing low-income citizens about the lack of finances to index pensions, as stipulated by law and as it was usually done in Moldova before PAS appeared on the political scene. According to Albu, in this situation, the national budget situation, compared by the president to a “placinda”, is mainly directed to pay ministers, presidential staff, judges and prosecutors, who receive salaries indexed to the inflation rate or even more. However, when it comes to the nearly 700,000 pensioners and other recipients of social benefits, this “piece of placinda” turns out to be very small.
Albu emphasizes that he considers the behavior of the PAS government towards pensioners unacceptable and reprehensible. The PSRM deputy also draws attention to the fact that the Constitutional Court is slowly examining the PSRM deputies’ petition for a fair indexation of pensions, which exceeds the inflation rate by more than two times, and the past six months have only aggravated the expectation of justice for about 700 thousand citizens. Albu also expresses concern about the situation of pensioners who still face debts for gas and heating energy and notes that such a situation contradicts the respect and care they deserve from the state.
