PDS representatives argue that the ban on nominations of certain representatives of the former SOR Party in the Electoral Code promotes fair elections. Parliament amended the code to exclude the participation of persons under investigation, suspected or accused of irregularities, as well as those who have violated the transparency of the process or are on an international sanctions list.
PDS MP Doina Herman emphasised that these amendments aim to prevent attempts to bribe voters and illegal financing, especially in the context of national security. She also stressed that the organised crime group Shor should not be able to rig elections and that it is the obligation of the authorities to ensure fair elections in line with EU standards.
To implement this decision, the police, the NCBC, the Information and Security Service and the Prosecutor’s Office will provide the Central Electoral Commission with information on persons who fall under the established criteria, such as being under sanctions and criminal prosecution. These measures are aimed at ensuring the integrity and transparency of the elections.
