Under the new rules, financial assistance during the cold period will be integrated into an energy compensation programme called Metered Assistance. This assistance will be provided in the form of monthly cash payments.
This decision is taken to simplify access to financial support during the cold season and to ensure that vulnerable families can receive state aid for heating costs.
To benefit from this financial assistance, families will have to register on a special platform from 1 November 2023. Citizens who do not have technical skills or access to digital tools will be assisted to register by local social workers or librarians.
These changes to the financial support mechanism for the cold season were made in the law on the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund. Corrections were made to the law on 15 September this year and further changes to the legislation will be made shortly to implement the amendments already made.
